ABOUT TOM

Tom Boulton – Letterpress printer & typographic designer, Co-Founder of the Society of Revisionist Typographers (SORT) now working solo.

Language & the way words flow are an important part of my work, they are the starting point for all of my design & print projects. With over 10 years’ experience in Letterpress printing & designing for both trade & personal clients I have worked with a wide variety of people and organisations including Tate Modern, Southbank Centre, V&A, Fortnum & Mason, Design Museum to name a few.

My natural calling is to learn new skills, often skills that are considered obsolete or dead to bring them back, revive interest in them & then deploy them. This blends perfectly with my obsession with hand printing, hand making & restoring old machinery.

I was born in Arundel, West Sussex.  After completing my degree in Typographic Design at the London College of Printing (LCP) I was based in London for a long time before relocating to live and work by the sea & grow my type & printing press collection.
